In the sports sector alone, there are 160 Sports Clubs and thousands of volunteers with a wide range of language skills. The same goes for the cultural sector. Two universities of applied sciences provide young and skilful volunteers for LOCs and our guest services. St. Petersburg, Russia The high-speed Allegro train takes you to the cultural capital of Russia in 2.5 hours (incl. visa procedure and passport controls in the train), directly from Lahti Railway Station. St. Petersburg is world-renowned for its art treasures, grandiose museums and glorious palaces. You can even take the morning train to St. Petersburg and make your way back to Lahti in the same evening. The train runs four times daily from Lahti to St. Petersburg. The capital of Finland, Helsinki The capital of Finland is easily reached by train, car or bus from Lahti, and in an hour, you’ll fi nd yourself in the centre of Helsinki. Helsinki is surrounded by the sea, and one of the fi nest places to admire it is the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress. Lapland In Finnish folklore, there is an element of mystery associated with Lapland, the country’s northernmost province. Lapland is the home of the one and only Santa Claus, round-the-clock sunlight in the summer and almost guaranteed Northern Lights every night in the winter. Lapland is 900 km from Lahti but only one hour by fl ight from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport.
