13 A PIONEER IN ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERTISE The success story of Lahti as a frontrunner of environmental expertise goes back to the restoration of Lake Vesijärvi in the 1980s. As much as 95 percent of the municipal waste produced in the Lahti region is utilised.
