Each year, it serves as the venue for hundreds of events, including a monthly fair, the Lahti Nights Schlager Festival, as well as the Seiterä Travelling Funfair, which attract tens of thousands of visitors in total. The opening ceremony and award ceremonies of the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be held at Market Square. The entire Market Square area can be reserved for events. The area is paved with stones, with the only fixed structures being the cafeteria buildings on the corners of the area, in addition to staircases. The event infrastructure of Market Square was refurbished in 2014 and includes drainage for events, more than 30 electricity outlets, optical fibre, lighting and permanent toilet facilities. The Market Square management company offers access to a network of subcontractors familiar with the venue and the conditions.
