10 OUTDOOR Lahti Sports Centre The Lahti Sports Centre is a unique venue for events of international significance all year round. Located near the city centre, it has excellent connections. The sports centre is located in a beautiful natural setting, near the city centre. With its spectator facilities, sports arenas and media and additional facilities, the area is suitable for major events that attract tens of thousands of people. The Lahti Sports Centre includes an athletics and football stadium, a ski jumping stadium and a martial arts arena. The area also has several restaurants, in addition to the Ski Museum. An outdoor swimming pool is open to visitors in the summer and the ice hall is located within walking distance. Fixed structures such as spectator stands, scoreboards and lighting reduce the need for temporary construction and leased equipment. The entire area is equipped with telecommunication infrastructure that meets the needs of today’s media and consumer. Every year, the sports centre hosts hundreds of events, such as the Finlandia Ski Marathon, the Lahti Ski Games, Finnish Elite Athletics Games and the Royal Cycling Race. Major international sports events held in Lahti include the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships (six times), the 2009 UEFA Women’s Championship (group stage and quarter-finals), the 2009 World Masters Athletics Championships, the 2013 International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics World Championships and the Stars of the Stadium event of the World Snowboard Tour.
